Declaration of the Deurty Boys

“To the illumined man or woman, a clod of dirt, a stone, and gold are the same.”

Bhagavad Gita

We are home to handmade local art made by local artists from all over the Greater New Orleans area. We believe in getting dirty. Many of our materials are salvaged and reclaimed. As were our lives when we began to devote them to beautification and creativity.

We believe in the Muse, who guides us through the creation of our work and the Universe in general. She who keeps us up at night, urging us to contribute our unique perspectives to humanity.

We believe in style, which adorns our cultural environment and ornaments all of our existence. Without it, our lives would be a drab drudgery, characterless and colorless.

We believe in humor, which levels us all though playfulness and lightens our moods with clever joyfulness. Antics and levity create a space in all our lives to consider the joys of life.

We believe in salvation, because all is not always lost simply because it is not useful. To the right mind a material like cloth, wood or metal is not something simply to be returned to the Earth just yet.

We believe in community, which provides us with an audience to display our craft and creativity. Without the fellowship of society, we would have no audiences or accolades for our work.

We believe in industry, which allows us the time, tools and tonics we need to provide for ourselves and loved ones. Willingly we place ourselves in the market to sell or trade our wares in the world.
